Davis Early Head Start is a childcare facility that is warm, inviting and dedicated to supporting the learning and development of young children. We ensure that our center is a safe and stimulating environment for children aged 0-4 years old. The children are engaged by their teachers in a variety of methods to engage the children that promotes not only their cognitive, social, emotional development but also their physical development.Early Head Starts began in the 1960s under the term of President Johnson. It started as an eight week program in order to meet the emotional, social, health, nutritional, and educational needs of poverty children which aligns with the development of the whole child. This model is essential to better serve my community because of the opportunities to provide families and children a place to receive the help and care they need in any of the following areas
Curriculum:
Our center offers a variety of services to support the needs of families in the community. We provide a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the development of the whole child. Our curriculum is based on respected theories and philosophies such as Vygotsky sociocultural theory, Montessori theory and Piaget Cognitive theory. They support the whole child approach by emphasizing the importance of social skills, play, exploration, and critical thinking skills. At our center, we have three distinct learning spaces: the infant room, the 1-2-year-old room, and the 3-4-year-old room. Each learning space is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of the children in that particular age group
Infant Room
The infant room provides a nurturing and comforting environment from ages six weeks to eleven months old. There are high-contrast pictures, soft rattles, mirrors, play mats, and soft books. It is also equipped with indoor/outdoor mats and blankets and play rings. These materials and resources are to help support the child's interests and development.
1-2 year olds Room
The 1-2-year-old room focuses on exploration and discovery. In this room, there are board books, soft blocks, baby dolls, large balls, nesting toys, plastic and wood vehicles, cause and effect toys. As well as low ramps, floor cushions, sturdy things to pull up on. These are to help with social, cognitive, fine and gross motor skills.
3-4 year olds Room
The 3-4-year-old room encourages independent learning and social interaction. This classroom is equipped with wooden puzzles with 4–12 pieces, dress-up clothes, puppets and blocks. These resources are to help with the children's imagination and communication skills.
Parent Volunteering: There are various volunteer opportunities available, such as assisting with classroom activities, organizing events, or participating in parent workshops.Parents and caregivers are essential in providing a supportive and enriching learning environment for every child.
